The concept behind Jazz Is Dead 001 is to pair contemporary producers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad with a series of revered jazz musicians, in a bid to create fresh tracks that employ the same original vintage recording equipment the ensemble cast used back in the ’60s and ’70s.

Stuck at home during lockdowns in the UK, saxophonist Trish Clowes turned her home into both a studio and a performance space.

Based on their first four works (Deus Ex Machina, Dark Wave, Broken Land, IH x Moondog), with "Polar Star" the big band presents another real suite, just as David Haudrechy likes to compose his works.

Palm Unit (whose name comes from the Palm label created by Jef Gilson). The core group is made up of saxophonist Lionel Martin, keyboardist Fred Escoffier, with whom they dynamited ethio-jazz in Ukandanz, and drummer Philippe Pipon Garcia, particularly recognized with Erik Truffaz (who previously played in Land then Cosmic Connexion with Fred Escoffier). For the Figures album, drummer Jean Joly joined the band on bass.

Heat is the fifth album since Shake Stew's formation in 2016 and delivers probably the most diverse overall impression of their musical range to date. "Revival" is an as-of-yet totally undiscovered electric jazz rock recording from 1977 composed by visual artist, activist and multi instrumentalist Herbert Bodzin. Bodzin, born in 1936, was a prominent figure in the local scene and initiator of the Jazzclub Hohenlimburg from 1957 to 1964. Hohenlimburg was where artists like Doldinger and the George Maycock Trio performed during the golden age of modern jazz and hard bop. On "Revival" you can expect straight, yet soulful fusion featuring deep downtempo and psychedelic flute breaks for the rare groove aficionado.
