Acclaimed pianist and organist Jae-Hyuck Cho, one of the most active concert artists in South Korea, returns to Orchid with an album of piano concertos by Mozart, partnered by Hans Graf and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.For this new album Cho has created a programme which draws on two unique works featuring piano.

Ronald Brautigam presents two of Franz Schubert’s late masterpieces, the Sonatas D 959 and D 960. They are played here on a fortepiano built by Paul McNulty after an instrument from around 1819 by the Viennese instrument maker Conrad Graf and presumably similar to the instrument on which Schubert composed. Although it is tempting to see Schubert’s final works as the testament of a doomed artist who feels his end is nearing, the reality is quite different: the composer displayed vitality, optimism and a prodigious capacity for work. His last two sonatas also show that he had reached a new level, having successfully emancipated himself from the Beethovenian model.

The strength and richness of Estonian classical music has its origins in two contrasting schools – the international outlook taught by Heino Eller in Tartu and the craftsmanship fostered by Artur Kapp in Tallinn. This album presents Eller’s complete output for cello and piano in its first recording, complemented by works by two of his more important students, Eduard Oja and Eduard Tubin. Villem Reimann and Herman Känd, both students of Kapp, had very different careers, Reimann an established professor in Soviet Estonia, and Känd dying unknown in American exile at only 46. This is the first recording of any of his music in over half a century.

For over 15 years, I have been devoting myself more and more to music from my homeland, Armenia. An infinitely vast world of music has opened up to me as a universe of its own. Sacred music (or spiritual music) has the oldest orally transmitted chants which are purely monodic in origin and are based on eight church modes with the liturgical year defining their function. Secular music is the largest field and includes folk music from towns and villages as well as music by gusans and ashughs (minstrels) – a tradition since the Early Middle Ages of singer-poets who either wandered or served at court, similar to troubadours and bards. The most famous among them was Sayat Nova (tracks 5 & 10), who was well-known and celebrated all over the Caucasus. Sacred and secular music are to some extent very closely related and have strongly influenced each other for centuries.

For the past thirty years, Paolo Pandolfo has been one of the leading viola da gambists of his generation, researching and promoting the repertoire of his instrument in all directions. In 1989, he was appointed successor to Jordi Savall as professor of viola da gamba at his alma mater, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (SCB), a position he holds to the present day. On this new recording in the SCB series on Glossa, Pandolfo presents the complete solo pieces for ‘lyra viol’ included in Alfonso Ferrabosco’s 1609 London publication Lessons for 1. 2. and 3. Viols.

On September 20, Ensemble Modern Media will release a new album featuring four works by George Benjamin, performed by Ensemble Modern resp. the Ensemble Modern Orchestra and the soprano Anna Prohaska. ›A Mind of Winter‹, ›At First Light‹, ›Palimpsests‹ and the arrangements of the ›Art of the Fugue‹ are all live recordings made between 2019 and 2023 at Berlin’s Philharmonie, Cologne’s Philharmonie and the Alte Oper Frankfurt under the baton of Sir George Benjamin.

Voices is the ninth studio album by American pop music duo Hall & Oates. The album slowly became a massive hit, spinning off four singles into the top 40 of the American pop charts. Voices spent 100 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at number 17.

When Get Up with It was released in 1974, critics – let alone fans – had a tough time with it. The package was a – by then customary – double LP, with sessions ranging from 1970-1974 and a large host of musicians who had indeed played on late-'60s and early-'70s recordings, including but not limited to Al Foster, Airto, John McLaughlin, Reggie Lucas, Pete Cosey, James Mtume, David Liebman, Billy Cobham, Michael Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Sonny Fortune, Steve Grossman, and others. In The Rolling Stone Album Guide (2004), J.D. Considine described the compilation's music as "worldbeat fusion".

This album features two monumental works for cello and piano, each being the product of remarkably distinct musical voices: those of a female and a male composer who were both virtuoso instrumentalists. She was English, and he, Russian. Both emigrated to the United States, Rachmaninoff fleeing the Russian Revolution as World War I waned, and Clarke being prevented from returning home during World War II.

Celebrated guitarist Xuefei Yang joins cellist Johannes Moser ‘one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists’ (Gramophone) for Kings Place’s Master Series, in an intricate sequence of dance and song-based gems.

Joe Venuti pioneered the jazz violin; his virtuoso playing influenced generations of players from Stephane Grappelli to Jean-Luc Ponty and beyond. Famous for his “hot” style, his recordings with guitarist Eddie Lang in the late 1920s – early 30s are jazz milestones. He worked with the Dorseys, Bix Beiderbecke, and Benny Goodman. Venuti was “rediscovered” in the late 1960s.

Zombi is an American Space Rock/Synthwave duo from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, consisting of Steve Moore on bass and synthesizers and Anthony Paterra on drums. After a four-year break that followed Zombi's beloved last album "Escape Velocity", the American instrumental duo reclaims its rightful role as space rock overlords with "Shape Shift". The album, self-produced by the band, is darker, heavier and more dynamic than previous works and more representative of the duo's live shows; a fitting return to the roots.

The idea of recording all three Brahms sonatas came to us quite spontaneously. Olivier Roberti and I had played them together and thought: Why not? There was no lengthy deliberation, just the will to do it.
