This month, an album from many, many years ago, when I made music from a place of hope. This time, however, not in an attempt to show that no more remains… but to try, yet again, to know that it can never truly disappear. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to every person who never lets me forget. You are my greatest blessing, and my greatest curse. But I owe you everything. This is for us.

For its inaugural release of 2025, Past Inside The Present proudly offers a powerful set of new pieces from experimental ambient veteran bvdub (aka Brock Van Wey), simply titled 13. Across its duration, spacious arrangements nest in clouds of reverb, underscored by granular details and entrancing synth arpeggiations. According to Van Wey – a long time scholar of Eastern ideas and literature – every section represents one edict or idea from chapter 13 of the Tao Te Ching, the foundational text of Taoist doctrine, which promotes humility and freedom from desire as the core elements of a peaceful existence.

Imagine an in indestructible iron house… without windows… without doors… but with countless people fast asleep inside, awaiting a death without air. You know if they die in their sleep, they will leave this earth without pain. And so, if you cry aloud to wake the lighter sleepers, only to bestow upon them the agony of experiencing their irrevocable death, are you doing them a good turn? If even a few stir, however, there will always exist a hope the house can be destroyed…

In his return to Dronarivm five years since A Different Definition of Love, Brock Van Wey, aka bvdub, presents his second-ever full-length, monolithic work at just over 79 minutes, continuing his quest to blur all lines of genre and definition just as the barriers between sleep and waking life –imagined and real – continue to break down and disappear further by the day… a life of consuming madness continuing its guise as grand artistic vision.

Glacial Movements brings bvdub and Netherworld together for their first official collaboration… but more importantly, a testament to a friendship that has endured and grown for well over a decade - and the pinnacle of the GM catalogue to date.

Recorded in 2020 in an attempt to face down a particularly inescapable loop of destructive mental illness made all the more undefeatable by the fact I was surrounded by people who not only couldn't understand, but couldn't care less. The closer they were, the further I was away…

The latest by veteran Brock Van Wey’s renowned and illustrious alias, bvdub demonstrates aural patience that gradually unravels throughout this two and a half hour long player. Brock’s grandiose approach to sound creation has been incredibly influential for both the listener and fellow artists, acknowledging that only few can execute the open spaces and cerebral attentiveness that Van Wey illustrates so effortlessly. ‘Slowly Shifting Lakes’ is the manifestation of liberation not limitation, exploring the malleability of time.

Memories fade. But to fade is not to disappear. It is to live a thousand more lives, each different from the next. And it is in their ebb and flow that eternity resides. Memories of a life when we shouted our feelings from the rooftops without words. Memories of days we never let each other fall. Never let each other know the meaning of a broken heart.

Departing in Descent is the first collaboration between James Bernard and bvdub – though, unbeknownst to each other, their lives had traveled silently side-by-side for decades. Officially beginning, perhaps, with Brock's purchase of James' seminal Atmospherics in 1994 after it was mistakenly stocked in his local house record store, what was and always will be his favorite ambient album of all time connected, as abstractly as possible, two people whose journeys through both music and life had been running in secret parallel for as long as either had ever known.

On "Decades On Divided Stars" Brock Van Wey, aka bvdub, presents his first album on Affin, each of its tracks spanning his trademark Odyssean length, with a sonic and emotional density second to none.

This was never shunned by labels, nor called nasty names. In fact no label ever heard it. No one has heard it but me.

Brock van Wey's BVDub project has long been a source of inspired, sonic detailed and aurally grandiose ambient, where experimental sound design techniques and the overdriven noise of dub techno add untold layers of complexity. Violet Opposition, his latest full-length excursion under the alias, continues in this vein, with waves of fuzzy, hard-to-pigeonhole noise, effects-laden chords, mutilated instrumentation and cascading, ear-pleasing melodies combining to create a quartet of epic, opaque ambient soundscapes.

The last album I recorded while still living in China, before I took a very long sabbatical from music and the world as I attempted to grapple with an upcoming transformation of my life and world I'm still failing miserably at even approaching handling in a reasonably competent manner.
