On this album, I tried to express through sounds the influences that have affected me from childhood to the present day. Once I asked my father to transcribe a two-handed standard as a classical piece. He didn’t really want to, but my mother insisted, so he did it anyway, and then he told me: Look through the sheet music, then forget it and play it the way you think it should be played. That's what I tried to do on this album: play the way I think it should be played, accepting the uncertainty of how it would go. I hadn't prepared for the pieces at all, and I was a bit anxious about it, but it made the result more natural.

Poet, friend of Petrarch, and ecclesiastic, Philippe de Vitry was also one of the leading figures of the Ars Nova, a movement that brought polyphonic and poetic refinement to its peak. This album, the debut recording of Ensemble Arborescence, is the result of extensive research by David Chappuis, following a meticulous study of the sources. It seeks to place the singers in the performance conditions of the 14th century, including historically informed Latin pronunciation. Recorded at Royaumont, the programme weaves together motets by Philippe de Vitry—from early works to those of his maturity—with interludes composed by David Chappuis on Vitry’s own poetry. This carefully crafted perspective invites us to rediscover the work of one of the most fascinating musical figures of the Middle Ages.

François d’Agincour (1684–1758) was a French composer, organist, and harpsichordist. Though overshadowed by contemporaries such as François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau his surviving keyboard works offer a fascinating glimpse into the refined and ornate French classical organ tradition of the early 18th century.

María de Buenos Aires is a tango operita (little opera) composed by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) with a libretto by poet Horacio Ferrer. Premiering in 1968, the piece is one of Piazzolla’s most ambitious and innovative works, blending tango, classical music, and surrealist poetry. It represents a major departure from traditional tango, showcasing Piazzolla’s distinctive nuevo tango style—complex, dramatic, and infused with elements of jazz and avant-garde music.

John W. Duarte (1919-2004) was educated at the Manchester University Faculty of Technology. He worked as a professional chemist until 1969, then abandoned chemistry in favor of full-time dedication to music, after having been persuaded by Len Williams, father of John Williams. His only formal musical education consisted in jazz guitar lessons with Terence Terry Usher, the rest he learned by self-instruction. He also worked professionally as a player of the trumpet and double bass, and regularly worked as a jazz musician, among others with Coleman Hawkins and Django Reinhardt.

Born in, Tokushima in 1989, Takuma Ishii has been a new type of pianist, aiming at making classical music more accessible by being active on various media resources. After graduating from the Department of Music at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he entered the Department of Piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he received his Master’s degree in Piano with the highest honors and completed the post-graduate course.In 2016, he won the second prize in the piano section at the Georges Enescu International Competition in Bucharest, Romania, as the first Japanese to win, which has been held since 1958 and has been won by Radu Lupu and Elizabeth Leonskaya.

"Farasha" is the debut release of the award-winning (e.g. Anton Rubinstein International Competition) soloist and chamber musician Sindy Mohamed on Berlin Classics. The violist recalls her Egyptian, French and German roots and reflects this in a diverse selection of pieces for the viola. The album contains Sonatas for Viola and Piano by Breville and Hinemith, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Spring Song and a transcribed version of Saint-Saens' Sonata for bassoon and piano op. 168. In addition Sindy Mohamed presents a newly comissioned work by Khaled Al Kammar "Faten Amal Harby" for oud, viola, req and piano.
