With a red hot three horn front line of Dave Liebman, Frank Foster and Joe Farrell, drummer Elvin Jones pushes some limits on this overlooked 1971 session. Equally noteworthy is newcomer (at the time) Gene Perla on bass and electric bass, while Jones himself propels the set with his trademark powerful drumming.

This 1977 release was the first Return to Forever album in five years to contain vocals, performed here by Corea's future wife Gayle Moran and the surprisingly enjoyable Stanley Clarke. This album also marked the return of original member Joe Farrell on saxophone and flute, along with several new members making up a killer five-piece horn section. This reissue features the original quadrophonic mix remastered from the original master tapes.

He is best known for a series of albums under his own name on the CTI record label and for playing in the initial incarnation of Chick Corea's "Return to Forever". "Upon This Rock" is his album, released in 1974.

Recorded in 1970 at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in New Jersey under the production auspices of Creed Taylor, the arrangement and conducting skills of Deodato, and the engineering expertise of Van Gelder himself, Jobim's "Stone Flower" is quite simply one of his most quietly stunning works – and certainly the high point of his time at Columbia.

One of Antonio Carlos Jobim's best-known albums, 1970's „Tide“ is a companion piece to 1967's „Wave“, a similarly lush and smooth collection for producer Creed Taylor's CTI Records. In fact, this album's lengthy title track is a theme-and-variations exploration of the main melodic line from WAVE's title track.

"Black Widow" is an album by Argentine composer, pianist and conductor Lalo Schifrin recorded in 1976 and released on the CTI label. The Allmusic review called it "one of the peak albums in Lalo Schifrin's lengthy catalogue and a necessity for anyone interested in his jazz work".

"Giant Box" is a double album by American arranger/conductor and composer Don Sebesky featuring performances recorded in 1973 and released on the CTI label. The Allmusic review states "This may have been Creed Taylor's most ambitious single project… Thankfully the musicmaking lives up to the billing. Everything that gave CTI its distinctive sound and identity is here – the classical adaptations, elaborate orchestrations and structuring, pop-tune covers, plenty of room for the star soloists to stretch out in a combo format… Giant Box still ranks as a sensational coup and a reminder of how potent CTI was at its peak".

This rare collection of all-star recordings from keyboardist Harris Simon features Michael Brecker at his very best! As a 21-year-old wunderkind, pianist-composer-arranger Harris Simon went into the studio in March of 1978 to record his first recording under his own name entitled "New York Connection" featuring an all-star cast including tenor sax titan Michael Brecker, Brazilian trumpeter Claudio Roditi, saxophonist-flutist Joe Farrell, bassist Mike Richmond, guitarist Bill Washer and Brazilian drummer Portinho. Two years later, Simon returned to the studio with essentially the same heavyweight crew to record Swish. Selections from both quintessential late '70s offerings, are now available in the compilation The "Mastery of Passion", represent a moment in time when jazz was crossing over to a wider audience.

Joe Farrell gained his greatest fame with his popular string of CTI recordings. For this set, he performs three of his originals (none of which caught on), guitarist Joe Beck's "Penny Arcade", and a 13-minute version of Stevie Wonder's "Too High". Farrell is in excellent form, as are keyboardist Herbie Hancock, Beck, bassist Herb Bushler, drummer Steve Gadd and Don Alias on conga. As is true of his other CTI sets, this Joe Farrell effort expertly mixes together some slightly commercial elements and superior recording quality with strong solos.

"Joe Farrell Quartet" is a jazz album by Joe Farrell on the CTI Records label. It was recorded at the Van Gelder Studio on 1 and 2 July 1970. Guitarist John McLaughlin guests on two tracks and there are two duo tracks, one with Holland and one with Corea. The album was re-released twice in the mid 1970s (with different cover art in each instance) as "Super Session" and "Song of the Wind".

"Light as a Feather" is one of the era's defining LPs, what many musicians have called a perfect album – the ultimate expression of the period's optimism. Its sheer, explosive joy surprised Chick Corea when he listened to it recently; he recalls in the liner notes searching then for a spiritual purity in his personal and creative lives. Even the band's name, Return to Forever, reflected his need to "deliver from inside" to "get back to the vision".

Originally issued in 1976, "End Of A Rainbow" was Patti Austin's solo debut album for CTI Records. Although less commercial success, this album was one of the first ever to be exclusively devoted to the Quiet Storm "sound" that was just-then blossoming. Patti's soulful, tender and at times wistful and melancholic vocals are nothing short of exquisite. Patti wrote eight tracks herself and CTI boss Creed Taylor obviously spared no expenses in getting the best session players for this cult classic.

"Towering Toccata" is an album by Argentine composer, pianist and conductor Lalo Schifrin recorded in 1976 and released on the CTI label. The Allmusic review states "it isn't the ideal follow-up to Black Widow that Schifrin fans might have hoped for. That said, the album has enough strong tunes and enough of a consistent sound to please hardcore Lalo Schifrin fans and anyone who loved Black Widow". The song "Roller Coaster" would be re-recorded and released on Schifrin's soundtrack to the 1977 film "Rollercoaster".
