Saxophonist John Coltrane was among the most important and most controversial figures in jazz, recognized as one of the great jazz artists of our time. Recorded June 22, 2007 by the virtuoso saxophonists Dave Liebman and Joe Lovano almost 40 years to the day after Coltrane’s death, this album brilliantly gives homage to the breadth of John Coltrane’s relatively short but momentous musical legacy, featuring pianist Phil Markowitz, bassist Ron McClure and drummer Billy Hart.

Azar Lawrence is an American jazz saxophonist. By the time Azar Lawrence released "Bridge Into the New Age" in 1974 - his first recording as a bandleader - he had already built himself an enviable reputation as a saxophone player alongside the likes of McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw. Lawrence's vigorous and emotionally multifaceted playing shines on this album which was a truly forward-looking release in the mid-1970s, presented here as a remastered hi-res release to be enjoyed anew.

All Stations is the result of James Scholfield’s wonderful work and great music that can be heard on this album. It’s strong, potent, gentle, sensitive, grooving, original, accesible and creative. And on top of all that recorded in the SACD format, which gives this music even more intensivety then a normal recording would do. So listen and enjoy.

An incredible record - and virtually the blueprint for countless other keyboard records to come! At the height of his 70s powers, Herbie really takes off into space with this set - moving away from more commercial music, and hitting a groove that's totally righteous, totally electric, and completely mindblowing! The album's got a bit of a Headhunters vibe, but it also veers off into some very wild analogue electronics too - a mix of Fender Rhodes, clavinet, melotron, and echoplex processing - augmented by additional work on Arp from Patrick Gleeson. Other players on the set include Bennie Maupin on reeds, Eddie Henderson on trumpet, Julian Priester on trombone, Buster Williams on bass, and Billy Hart on drums, and the great Buck Clarke rounds out the combo on percussion.

One of the most beautiful Eddie Henderson albums we've heard in years – a richly modal session with lots of classic influences, recorded beautifully, and with a feel that will make it a real standout! The set list includes some killer jazz standards – like Wayne Shorter's "Prince Of Darkness" and "Footprints", Miles Davis' "So What" and "All Blues", and Monk's "Well You Needn't" and "Round Midnight" – not to mention great versions of "Green Dolphin Street", and "Old Folks". And even though the tunes are classics, they're played with the fresh modernism of the mid 60s Miles Davis quintet – a style that's got angular edges, but also some deeply soulful moments – played with elegance by a group that includes Bob Berg on tenor, Dave Kikoshi on piano, Ed Howard on bass, and Billy Hart and Victor Lewis on drums.

This release includes Herbie Hancock's music from 1969-1971 for the Warner Brothers label, released originally as three albums, one of Herbie Hancock's most creative periods. The earliest album, Fat Albert Rotunda, features a fine sextet highlighted by tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, like Hancock a master at maintaining strong rhythmic grooves while stretching outward. The later music, with a regularly working band, becomes increasingly expansive and exploratory. Like Miles Davis on Bitches Brew, Hancock was increasingly interested in layering rhythms and textures, emphasizing percussion, electric keyboards, and potent soloists, and broadening his palette of sounds to eventually include synthesizers.

When it comes to jazz musicians improving with age, pianist Richie Beirach is a perfect example. With the release of "Live at Birdland New York" in May 2017, the pianist and composer celebrates his 70th birthday, demonstrating that he’s still at the top of his game. His congenial partner of two decades, the Stuttgart-born, New York-based violinist Gregor Huebner reaches half-a-century on the exact same day as Beirach. This double birthday tribute to two talented artists features highlights recorded in August 2012 during their annual live residence at the illustrious Birdland in New York, joined by a powerful lineup of trumpeter Randy Brecker, bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Hart.

Arguably the greatest violinist in modern jazz, Zbignew Seifert was a musician’s musician, a player who is still talked about with a sense of awe. By the time of his death in 1979 at the age of 32, he had an international following and was playing with the jazz world’s elite. This 1976 recording features some of the genre's premiere musicians, including American drummer Billy Hart, considered in the same ranks as such innovators as Elvin Jones and Tony Williams. Bassist Cecil McBee’s credentials include work with Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett. Both Hart and McBee had also played with pianist McCoy Tyner, to whom this album and the title song Man of the Light are dedicated.

For their fourth release, a true Jazz supergroup, The Cookers, have swapped out saxophonist Craig Handy for Donald Harrison, raising the median age of the septet to just under 70. All of that longevity doesn’t mean complacency, however: The 69-year-old pianist George Cables, septuagenarians Eddie Henderson (trumpet), Billy Harper (tenor saxophone), Cecil McBee (bass) and Billy Hart (drums) and the Cookers’ two youngsters, Harrison (54) and trumpeter David Weiss (49) may bring well-defined personal styles to this ongoing project, but there’s nothing retro about them. The Cookers cook, all right, and if anything they’ve become even more assured, skillful and single-minded with each new offering.

Russian-born, North Carolina-based composer Yelena Eckemoff consistently releases material that is deeply thought provoking and reflective. This time out, she leads a team with all stars Billy Hart, Ben Street and for added exoticism, violinist Mark Feldman through a collection of originals. Delicately delivered strong material. The songs are impressionistic and filled with water colors of sound.

"Crossings" is jazz pianist Herbie Hancock's tenth studio album originally released in 1972. The record was the second during Hancock's Mwandishi period, which featured a string of albums that focused on experimental electronics. "Crossings" was the first album to feature the newest member to Hancock's group, synthesizer player Patrick Gleeson.

No Borders focuses on classical pieces as a basis for improvisation, and, on the other hand, also contains a completely composed original composition by Beirach: "Steel Prayers", a piece for the victims of 9/11. To take classical pieces and open them for improvisation, without depriving them of their character, is also the basic principle in the cooperation with violinist Gregor Hübner.
