After twenty years of playing together, the Billy Hart Quartet - with Mark Turner, Ethan Iverson and Ben Street - is distinguished by its stylistic openness. A drummer of enormous experience, who has played through many of jazz's idiomatic upheavals, Hart, now 83, advocates a `multi-directional' sound approach, and his younger confr?res respond accordingly, each piece subtly opening another door. The new album, Just, was recorded in New York's Sound On Sound Studios in December 2021.

Russian-born, North Carolina-based composer Yelena Eckemoff consistently releases material that is deeply thought provoking and reflective. This time out, she leads a team with all stars Billy Hart, Ben Street and for added exoticism, violinist Mark Feldman through a collection of originals. Delicately delivered strong material. The songs are impressionistic and filled with water colors of sound.

Azar Lawrence is an American jazz saxophonist. By the time Azar Lawrence released "Bridge Into the New Age" in 1974 - his first recording as a bandleader - he had already built himself an enviable reputation as a saxophone player alongside the likes of McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw. Lawrence's vigorous and emotionally multifaceted playing shines on this album which was a truly forward-looking release in the mid-1970s, presented here as a remastered hi-res release to be enjoyed anew.

On the Corner is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis. It was recorded in June and July 1972 and originally released on October 11 of the same year by Columbia Records. The album continued Davis's exploration of jazz fusion, and explicitly drew on the influence of funk musicians Sly Stone and James Brown, the experimental music of Karlheinz Stockhausen, ideas by composer Paul Buckmaster, and the free jazz of Ornette Coleman.

Joe Beck began his career as a highly sought-after studio guitarist in the early 70s. His clean jazz playing on electric guitar was his hallmark. His discography is well-worthy searching for. He was well-respected and played with artists such as John Abercrombie, Jimmy Bruno, Gill Evans, Don Sebesky, Bobby TImmons, and Paul Simon. This wonderful recording was made for Japanese Venus label, and dedicated to Frank Sinatra.

The golden trio of Richie Beirach, George Mraz and Billy Hart returns to Venus Records with another superb album. This is an eagerly awaited release because their previous output, Manhattan Reverie, was not only selected as Swing Journal Gold Disc but also won the magazine's 2006 Jazz Disc "Silver" Award. The trio goes back more than 30 years, and, as Beirach lives and teaches in Germany now, they seem to especially enjoy these 'reunion' recording sessions. Their exuberance is felt throughout the program which is dominated by four Miles Davis compositions and augmented by four standards and two classical tunes. This is another strong album by Beirach, and should not be missed by his fans.

This release includes Herbie Hancock's music from 1969-1971 for the Warner Brothers label, released originally as three albums, one of Herbie Hancock's most creative periods. The earliest album, Fat Albert Rotunda, features a fine sextet highlighted by tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, like Hancock a master at maintaining strong rhythmic grooves while stretching outward. The later music, with a regularly working band, becomes increasingly expansive and exploratory. Like Miles Davis on Bitches Brew, Hancock was increasingly interested in layering rhythms and textures, emphasizing percussion, electric keyboards, and potent soloists, and broadening his palette of sounds to eventually include synthesizers.

V.S.O.P. is a 1977 double live album by pianist and keyboard player Herbie Hancock, featuring acoustic jazz performances by the V.S.O.P. Quintet (Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams), and jazz fusion and jazz-funk performances by the Mwandishi band (with Eddie Henderson) and The Headhunters (featuring Bennie Maupin and Paul Jackson).

The album's got a bit of a Headhunters vibe, but it also veers off into some very wild analogue electronics too - a mix of Fender Rhodes, clavinet, melotron, and echoplex processing - augmented by additional work on Arp from Patrick Gleeson. Other players on the set include Bennie Maupin on reeds, Eddie Henderson on trumpet, Julian Priester on trombone, Buster Williams on bass, and Billy Hart on drums, and the great Buck Clarke rounds out the combo on percussion.

All Stations is the result of James Scholfield’s wonderful work and great music that can be heard on this album. It’s strong, potent, gentle, sensitive, grooving, original, accesible and creative. And on top of all that recorded in the SACD format, which gives this music even more intensivety then a normal recording would do. So listen and enjoy.

This classically-trained veteran pianist was marking his sixth decade on earth with a little help from his friends—trio band mates, bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Hart, expert rhythm makers also featured on this highly effective Japanese import from Venus Records, Manhattan Reverie. They all appeared to have a certain twinkle in their eyes, suggesting that they are very comfortable playing with each other, wise to each other's ways and that they were having a good time. It was kind of a nice message: Age has nothing to do with vitality or musical ability, except maybe, in this case, it adds to both of those things.

When it comes to jazz musicians improving with age, pianist Richie Beirach is a perfect example. With the release of "Live at Birdland New York" in May 2017, the pianist and composer celebrates his 70th birthday, demonstrating that he’s still at the top of his game. His congenial partner of two decades, the Stuttgart-born, New York-based violinist Gregor Huebner reaches half-a-century on the exact same day as Beirach. This double birthday tribute to two talented artists features highlights recorded in August 2012 during their annual live residence at the illustrious Birdland in New York, joined by a powerful lineup of trumpeter Randy Brecker, bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Hart.
