Following on from Amadeus and Ludwig, the Zaïde Quartet continues its exploration of the great masters’ repertoire with Franz, an opus devoted entirely to Schubert. True to their original and daring approach to recording, the four musicians paint a striking portrait of the Austrian composer through one of his greatest masterpieces: Death and the Maiden. This masterpiece is framed by transcriptions of two lieder: ‘Le Roi des Aulnes’ and a sublime aria from the opera ‘Fierrabras’. The Schubertian universe is expressed here in all its existential depth, with a permanent duality between light and darkness, gentleness and blackness, life and death, leading to a final redemption of overwhelming beauty.

“I’ll also be writing a violin concerto for an American, the same person Stravinsky wrote one for; that will be good advertising for me, but also a lot of work.” For Bohuslav Martinů, the violin was the instrument especially close to his heart, but it was also companion. He played in the Czech Philharmonic as a violinist, and it was the violin that took him to Paris, the city which enchanted him and become his home for 17 years before the war drove him to America. More than once, the violin was his introduction to the “high society” of the music world.

While the three composers featured on this recording are not, in the public perception and sometimes even in that of the performers, among the most significant exponents of Viennese music in the first half of the twentieth century, their remarkably expressive and virtuoso writing is deeply rooted in fin-de-siecle Vienna. They were banned by the dictatorships of the 1930s and then blacklisted in the aftermath of the Second World War by the young European avant-garde, and it is only in recent years that the beauty and opulence of their works have been rediscovered.

Salvador ‘Tutti’ Camarata was something of a 20th century musical Renaissance Man. During his long life, he was a trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, and technologically pioneering recording studio owner across many genres of music. His achievements included involvement with some of the most successful bands of the Big Band era, seminal work for Disney in the 1950s and 1960s, arranging for legendary jazz vocalists, involvement at the highest levels of classical music in the US and the UK, and owning recording studios that worked with many of the biggest names in the rock era.

Composing with her four collaborators in mind, Viktoria imagined her quintet playing each note as she composed, making the music inseparable from their presence. The album integrates spoken word, rap, singing, screaming, and whispering - a shared sonic tapestry that expresses joy, wonder, questioning and celebration. "It's a band built on inspiration, joy, dreams and love," Viktoria says.

Film Fest Gent is releasing the album "Debbie Wiseman: Music for Film and Television," dedicated to the work of composer Debbie Wiseman, the guest of honour at the 2025 World Soundtrack Awards. The album features new studio recordings of her music for film and television, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic. The collection includes iconic pieces from projects such as "Wilde," "Father Brown," and "Wolf Hall," as well as re-recorded soundtracks from the films "Edie" and "To Olivia." Additionally, the album contains two previously unreleased compositions, including music for the 2023 coronation, and a solo piano performance by Wiseman herself.

"The Best of Col and Judy" is a compilation album featuring two Australian pop stars of the early 1960s, Col Joye and Judy Stone. Released in 1963 on the Festival Records label, the album is a collection of solo hits from each artist recorded prior to its release. Despite the joint title, the album does not contain any duets; each side is dedicated to one of the performers. The first side features tracks by Col Joye, a pioneer of Australian rock and roll, while the second side presents songs by Judy Stone, a popular singer of the same era. The album reflects the sound of early 60s Australian pop music, combining elements of rock and roll, teen pop, and traditional ballads.

Washington, D.C.–based pianists—composer-performer Sam Post and his friend and colleague Ralitza Patcheva—have join forces to reimagine Bach’s iconic Well-Tempered Clavier. Their new recording, The Well-“Tampered” Clavier, Book 1, embraces the expressive possibilities of the modern piano and infuses the music with rhythmic vitality drawn from jazz, ragtime, folk, world music, and twentieth-century classical styles. In the Baroque era, improvising, ornamenting, and reshaping a composer’s original work was standard practice—much like jazz musicians do today. Post and Patcheva lean into that legacy, freely applying rhythmic variation without feeling constrained by the printed page. Post reflects, “Surely this is how Bach felt writing his music—every moment, every note a path chosen, leaving behind equally valid options, but together forming one coherent, human story.”
