Illinois Jacquet was "foremost of the WWII-era "Texas tenor titans", an influential figure in both jazz and R&B saxophone. "Swing's The Thing" is one of his first recordings. Recorded in Los Angeles in 1956, it features Illinois Jacquet on tenor sax, Roy Eldridge on trumpet, Jimmy Jones on piano, Herb Ellis on guitar, Ray Brown on bass, and Jo Jones on drums. These magical performances capture the genius that was Jacquet's playing, backed by a stellar ensemble.

Ernst Reijseger, individualist, cellist, composer and performance artist, 1954 born in Naarden in the Netherlands, belongs to the most important artists of the contemporary music scene. The artistic work of Ernst Reijseger ranges between performance, recording art and sound installation. He dedicated himself with body and soul to the music, but his activity goes far beyond concert and club stages. He recognises the recording as something special that is not limited to only document performances, but also opens new artistic possibilities to create own sound images.

November 2020 sees the 50th Anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World in North America. The album marks the beginning of a collaboration with guitarist Mick Ronson that would last through classic works including Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane, as well as the first in a 10-year series of indispensable albums stretching through 1980’s Scary Monsters

In this DG Stage concert the spotlight falls on Elīna Garanča, one of today’s most eminent singers. The Latvian mezzo will perform Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben song cycle and a selection of Brahms Lieder – together with the acclaimed pianist Malcolm Martineau.

Wojciech Blazejczyks music feeds on scientific theories, internet streams and civilization waves or scrap; it sometimes looks like a nerds diary. Full of different colours and fonts, notes, charts, exclamations and underlined words. This diary is the composers reaction to what surrounds him every day.

The second of trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's two Impulse albums features the 25-year old in three separate settings. He is heard along with a tenor-saxophonist backed by strings ("Skylark," "I Got It Bad" and "Chocolate Shake" are all given beautiful treatments), with a 16-piece band and in a septet with Eric Dolphy and Wayne Shorter. This well-rounded and highly recommended showcase shows why Freddie Hubbard was considered the top trumpeter to emerge during the early '60s.

Aleksandra Gryka is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic and fascinating figures of the young generation of Polish composers. She does not comment on her works, does not give interviews, and does not provide critics with an insight into her scores (which even causes the occasional international scandal).

Cezary Duchnowski, although perceived as a specialised composer with consciously chosen specialisation, is very open to extremely versatile activity in the musical field. Apart from absolute music, he's also keenly interested in relations between music and the word, music and theatre (or rather performance art) as well as visual arts in the wide sense.

In my sound world, music is not created, but discovered. The environment is explored, the space is palpated, the details are observed, and the object is experienced from different angles so that, gradually, its physiognomy is exhibited. Like an alchemist who values, evaluates, and carefully calculates his materials to make them react, my intention is to create kaleidoscopes of sounds, effervescent objects, always alive, always changing, with unique and unrepeatable gestures, full of energy, and impenetrable density
