Long-running Swedish melodic hard rockers House Of Shakira have announced the upcoming release of their new studio album "XIT" on April 21, 2023. This new album follows the band's last studio album (and ninth overall), “Radiocarbon” in 2019 and the 25th Anniversary reissue of the band's debut album "Lint" in March 2022. "XIT" once again showcases why House Of Shakira have been one of the most consistently unique bands in the melodic hard rock genre over the course of their multi-decade career.

Musical synergy was evident from the first two notes of Thelonious Monk’s ‘Bemsha Swing’ that were played by guitarist James Kitchman and pianist Bruno Heinen without any count-in, prior discussion, or eye contact. This was the opening night of a monthly residency held at Kansas Smitty’s jazz bar in East London in 2017. The duo has since developed a common improvisational language which takes influence from the chronology of great guitar/piano duos in jazz: Jim Hall and Bill Evans; through to Fred Hersh and Julian Lage.

The latest from Pulitzer Prize-winner Henry Threadgill, The Other One, is comprised of a three-movement composition entitled “Of Valence” that was the musical component of a large multimedia work performed and recorded live at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn, New York in May, 2022. Written for a 12-piece ensemble – made up of an unusual instrumental combination of three saxophones, violin, viola, two cellos, tuba, percussion, piano and two bassoons – The New York Times described the performance as possessing “a galvanic sense of swing,” and “in lock-step with his every surprise rhythmic feint — producing an obliquely danceable, straightforwardly joyous Threadgillian energy.”

The music of Herbie Hancock has affected the lives of generations of jazz performers. Like many of these musicians, it was the opportunity to play with the great pianist/composer that introduced the great drummer Mike Clark to the jazz world at large. In three works by two Hungarian composers, we can trace how the solo string genre, founded by Bach, was suddenly revived in the twentieth century. Kodály’s grandiose cello sonata intones with the intimacy of a soliloquy, deploying folk-music inspiration and the new harmonic world of Impressionism alongside the Bachian prototypes.

Part of the Foundation’s “Música en la noche” (Music at night) series, the recital offered a different interpretation of one of the most popular solo piano genres: the nocturne. Rather than focusing on the canonical works of Chopin, this programme explores the less familiar margins of the repertoire, transporting the listener to a night without frontiers. Eight composers of five different nationalities (American, Italian, French, Romanian and Bulgarian) together create an alternative and light-filled vision of the nocturne.
