This is Jah Wobble’s first post punk LP in recent years following travel and dub records. The brash guitar driven tracks on Automated Paradise reflect his continuing preoccupation with the declining state of the nation. Driven by his experience working each week at a music based community project in Merton, with Jon Klein, it is reminiscent of Mark Stewart. Angry in an empathetic, constructive way it resolved with the beautiful instrumental ‘Brockwell Lido’. Like much of his work these days, much of the lyrical content comes while traversing London’s transport system.

Squid’s new album Cowards is about evil. Nine stories whose protagonists reckon with cults, charisma and apathy. Real and imagined characters wading into the dark ocean between right and wrong. Cowards is Squid’s most courageous album: simultaneously growing in scope and returning to basics. The band recorded Cowards at Church Studios in Crouch End with Mercury prize winning producers Marta Salogni and Grace Banks. On additional production is longtime shifu and collaborator Dan Carey, who recorded the band’s first two albums.

Teeming with melodic epiphanies and layered sounds, Squid’s second album O Monolith is a musical evocation of environment, domesticity and self-made folklore. Like its predecessor, 2021’s critically acclaimed, UK number 4 album Bright Green Field, it is dense and tricksy – but also more warm and characterful, with a meandering, questioning nature.

The vinyl recording of Nico’s iconic Live Inn performance in Tokyo stands as a cherished gem. It encapsulates the haunting allure of her deep vocals in tracks like “Janitor of Lunacy” and “Tananore”, drawing listeners into her captivating melancholy. Former member of The Velvet Underground – Singer/Songwriter, Model/Actress, Solo Artist/Music Icon. Nico seemed to be at the epicentre of all that was cool in the 60s. And she continued that trend by relocating to Manchester in the 80s for a career renaissance before sadly dying in 1988.

Nico’s iconic post-Velvets return to rock! As one critic memorably put it, when Nico spoke it was like coffin-lids creaking. When she sang it was like listening to ravens taking off 13 at a time. Nico was like nothing rock music had ever seen or heard before or since.

The Australian singer-songwriter’s latest album sounds at first like a chipper fusion of post-punk and dream pop. But the lyrics tell a story of an unhinged narrator and her desperate obsession.

Released at the end of the initial period of Wire’s 3rd act – after Send and before the band’s post-Bruce Gilbert re-invention – Read & Burn 03 never quite got the attention it deserved. However the opening track 23 Years Too Late, with its tour narrative text and motorik rhythm stands as one of the band’s finest achievements of any era in the view of both core fans & the band (a rare point of agreement!) The original EP, 3rd in the Read & Burn series and the one not compiled on to the Send album, was the last non-historic release by the original Wire line up of Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, Bruce Gilbert & Robert Grey and has never been properly released on vinyl. The 2026 version brings the original 4 tracks and adds 3 more.

Iguana Death Cult’s latest evolution finds the Rotterdam band reflecting on hardship and doubt while facing a burning world. The result channels their early punk and garage roots, powered by Tobias Opschoor’s razorsharp riffs, Uri Rennert’s relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s groovy rhythms and Jeroen Reek’s raw, emotive vocals.

Avalanche Kaito: the exhilarating combination of Burkina Faso born urban griot Kaito Winse and fellow experimentalists Belgian guitarist Nico Gitto and French drummer/producer Benjamin Chaval. This transnational avant-rock trio created waves with their visceral self-titled 2022 debut, bagging notable festival appearances (Supersonic, End of the Road), a KEXP session and much deserved critical and audience enthusiasm.

The Arms of Someone New formed in 1983 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, when college students Mel Eberle and Steve Jones combined their introspective artistry into music marked by atmospheric guitars, minimalist synthesizers, vintage drum machines, and tape loops. This collection of 33 tracks, recorded before their 1985 album SUSAN SLEEPWALKING, evokes the romantic intensity of Half Japanese and Beat Happening, yet bears a quietly seductive charm all its own. In early 1983, Mel was in the band The First Things, managed and produced by Steve. As the two grew to be closer friends they started making music independently of what Mel was writing & recording for The First Things. The idea for The Arms of Someone New was to combine their varied interests in The Beatles, psychedelia, blues, new wave and post-punk to create a sound that wrapped around the listener like fog.

New Model Army are a band who continue to thrive outside of any singular genre. Throughout their long and storied career, they have taken the road less travelled, shunning fame and instead, with each successive album, pushing boundaries of creativity. It is the same music-first approach that has led to this year’s “Sinfonia”. Recorded at Tempodrom, Berlin on July 15th 2022, with Sinfonia Leipzig and conducted by Cornelius During, it may seem like an obvious evolution, however, in true New Model Army style they have broken the barriers between band and orchestra, redefining that relationship and defying expectation. All songs have been arranged for orchestra by long-time friend and guest violinist Shir-Ran Yinon, who, in collaboration with the band, created something unique but staying true to New Model Army.

Inspired by artists like Fela Kuti, Parliament, and Al Green — whose influences loomed large in the band’s rhythmic DNA — Naive Melodies shines a light on the Black music traditions that underpinned their artistry.
