Bryan Adams' 1991 album, Waking Up the Neighbours, signaled his commercial apex. Bridging the time gap between '80s arena rock and '90s angst-ridden grunge, the album also ushered in an era in which Adams became as well-known for his sweeping power ballads as he was for straight-ahead rock tunes. This album, filled with nearly 75 minutes of showstopping arena rockers and mid-tempo ballads, featured no less than five hit singles, the most notable being the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves theme "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You." That ballad spent seven weeks atop the U.S. pop charts, becoming the longest-reigning American chart-topper since Prince's "When Doves Cry" seven years earlier. The song also became a phenomenon in Europe, becoming Adams' biggest hit ever. Other singles which followed included the joyous rocker "Can't Stop This Thing We Started," which became a number two hit, the mid-tempo ballads "Do I Have to Say the Words" and "Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven," and the fun, straight-ahead rocker "There Will Never Be Another Tonight."

Review by William Ruhlmann Borboletta was the first new Santana band studio album in 11 months and the group's sixth overall. Once again, individual credits were listed for each song. The main problem was that the band seemed to be coasting; Carlos turned in the usual complement of high-pitched lead guitar work, and the percussionists pounded away, but the Santana sound had long since taken over from any individual composition, and the records were starting to sound alike. That, in turn, started to make them inessential; Borboletta spent less time on the charts than any previous Santana album.

The mark that the recording of Caravanserai and Love Devotion Surrender had left on Carlos Santana was monumental. The issue of Welcome, the band's fifth album and its first with the new lineup, was a very ambitious affair and was regarded by traditional fans of Santana with even more strangeness than its two predecessors. However, issued as it was at the end of 1973, after Miles had won a Grammy for Bitches Brew and after Weather Report, Return to Forever, and Seventh House had begun to win audiences from the restless pool of rock fans, Santana began to attract the attention of critics as well as jazz fans seeking something outside of the soul-jazz and free jazz realms for sustenance. The band's hard root was comprised of Carlos, drummer Michael Shrieve, bassist Doug Rauch, and keyboard king Tom Coster. Add to this the percussion section of Armando Peraza and Chepito Areas as well as a second keyboard by Richard Kermode, and space was the place.

From the collection of writer and and filmmaker Andrew Bennett during his time documentin- Van Halen as Wolf joined the band in 2006 and into 2007 leading up to the reunion tour. These recordings are from rehearsals at 5150 from November 2006 to January 2007, recorded straight to the 5150 soundboard. Eddie, Alex, and Wolfgang Van Halen were rehearsing full set lists twice a week, and since this was prior to the return of Dave these recordings are performed with no singer.
