The Modern Jazz Quartet—pianist John Lewis, vibraphonist Milt "Bags" Jackson, bassist Percy Heath, and drummer Connie Kay—stood as paragons of elegance in jazz. The musical arrangements, created by Joseph Kuhn, paint an aural portrait of Paris, focusing on romantic and scenic locations such as Montmartre, the Champs Élysées, and the Seine. The album, produced under the direction of D. L. Miller, features orchestral interpretations of famous French tunes ("I Love Paris," "La Mer," "Autumn Leaves"), as well as original compositions by Kuhn, such as "Champs Élysées Café." The original album cover art was created by Joseph Krush.

Since the age of 18 when he first started playing professionally, he has evolved a strong, intense style of jazz guitar with impact and creativity. He is a guitarists' guitarist. After taking Tokyo by storm in his 20s, he toured and traveled extensively, recording many of his finest work with American musicians, as well as with many long-term Japanese colleagues.

Scheen Jazzorkester (SJO) had its first concert in Skien in February 2010, with an 18-member big band lineup, including a majority of professional musicians based in the Grenland area.

Kazumi Watanabe is one of the finest jazz guitarists to emerge out of Japan. A household name in the world of jazz fusion fans, Guitar Renaissance is the third and the final release of the trilogy. Only four of the fifteen tracks are pop-, jazz- or classical compositions. Most of the six Watanabe originals are in the Spanish style, too. On two tracks he is accompanied by clarinet or another guitar, the rest is solo Watanabe at his best.
