The Nashville String Band made six records between 1969 and 1972, featuring Chet Atkins and the musical comedy team of Homer & Jethro with a group of Nashville session musicians. The ten instrumentals range from the very familiar "Colonel Bogey March" (easily recognized by fans of the film The Bridge on the River Kwai) to "Rocky Top," "Red Wing" (a favorite of musical comedy great Spike Jones in the 1940s), and the tearjerker country ballad "Green, Green Grass of Home." Although the session is a tad overproduced with a stingy length of just 24 minutes, and it doesn't sufficiently focus on the solo capabilities of each man, this long out of print RCA LP still has great appeal. One reason is the priceless album jacket, with the three players as gun-wielding masked bandits on the front cover, and smiling unmasked with their instruments in place of guns on the back.

Having loved the recordings of the Pat Metheny Group since his teenage years, Pizzarelli welcomed the challenge of diving deep into Metheny’s cannon of dense, moving material and deconstructing Pat Metheny’s group arrangements on his seven-string guitar. “To say it was flattering to have John address these tunes is an understatement. I had no idea that it was all leading to this excellent solo guitar recording of my tunes” says Methany.

Torfi Ólafsson was born in Reykjavík, Iceland on November 8, 1955.
He grew up in Kópavogi, and at age 8 studied guitar at the music school there for four years. Trumpet and horns were the instruments which he played in his school band when it was formed in 1966 until 1971. In 1975, he obtained a degree from MT with a B.E.D. from KHÍ in 1980.

After Georg Gulyas’ critically lauded recordings of the collected works for guitar by Bach and Britten on Proprius/Naxos, this internationally acclaimed guitarist now returns to the Latin American guitar repertoire with a brand new album dedicated to the Paraguayan composer Augustin Barrios. Recording producer is Torbjorn Samuelsson who continues the highly praised sound work that characterize Gulyas’ previous records.

Guitarist/composer Lawrence Ku is one of a handful of jazz musicians performing in China (primarily Shanghai and Beijing) who has had direct experience in the United States. In Ku’s case, he was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He currently lives in Shanghai, China where he is among the central figures in the growing jazz scene there.
