This piece came about one afternoon when I was in my studio micing a classical guitar while running it through some effects into a separate channel. Nothing too complicated. There was a period where I was exploring this set up without much of a plan, seeing where it could go. An afternoon exercise. Like most of these days, I recorded this piece and put it aside for a while, not really thinking it would be worth sharing. I came back to it while I was driving, and thought it captured something I wasn't aware of at the time. Perhaps it's a driving song.The movement while listening helped me hear it differently. This album has been made on a fully restored Bechstein Klavier from 1899 at the HR Recordings music room in Madrid. The next full album program by John will be dedicated to the music of Franz Schubert.

Richard Wagner began composing his Wesendonck Lieder during a stay in Zurich between November and December 1857. Originally conceived for female voice and piano alone, the five songs were later orchestrated, first by the Austrian conductor and composer Felix Mottl in 1893, and then later in 1976 by the German composer Hans Werner Henze, in a chamber setting.

Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder–Walzer (1869 & 1875), Op. 52 and Op. 65, are a cheerful, short, witty set of songs full of anger, joy and rejection. These part-songs are accompanied by one piano, with four hands and any number of voices can perform any selection.

SOMM Recordings announces the launch of a major six-volume series of Franz Xaver Scharwenka’s transcriptions of Beethoven Symphonies featuring the label debut of the Tessa Uys and Ben Schoeman Piano Duo. Formed in 2010, the Duo began their in-concert exploration of Scharwenka’s four-hand Beethoven transcriptions in 2015 and now bring that experience to disc for the first time. Volume 1 includes the premiere recording of Scharwenka’s piano duet transcription of Symphony No.3, the ever-popular Eroica, and Debussy’s two-piano arrangement of Robert Schumann’s Six Studies in Canonic Form.

Steve Marion, the critically acclaimed - and completely wordless - songwriter and guitarist known as Delicate Steve, has unveiled a new album called Delicate Steve Sings. Is the album title a reference to the instantly recognizable "voice" of his guitar? Does he actually sing this time? Has he not been singing all along? That's the crux of Sings – Marion is the rare guitarist where you can put on any of his records and know exactly who's playing. In an indie rock landscape stuffed end-to-end with guitars and amplifiers, nobody else sounds like this.
