Frankie Jones, also known as Jah Frankie Jones, is a Jamaican reggae singer best known for his recordings of the late 1970s and 1980s. Jones was born in the Greenwich Farm area of Kingston. He had his first hit in the late 1970s with "Sweeten My Coffee", recorded at Channel One Studios, and also recorded for Bunny Lee, Lee producing his debut album Satta An Praise Jah, released in 1977. He also recorded for Bertram Brown's Freedom Sounds label in the late 1970s. In 1984 he had several hits including "Settle for Me", "Modelling Girl", and the same another album was released, a split Showdown with Michael Palmer. Another split album, with Patrick Andy, was released in 1985, along with the album Settlement. In 1986 Trojan Records released a collection of earlier Keith Wignall-produced recordings as The Best of Frankie Jones volume one. Jones also recorded for Prince Jammy, and George Phang. the latter producing his 1986 album Old Fire Stick. Another split album was released in 1986, the Hell in the Dance set split with Pad Anthony, on which the singers were backed by the Roots Radics.

Violinist HuanLing Qian, originally from China but with ties to Poland, presents an album of contemporary classical violin music by composers from the Middle Kingdom. The album features 20th-century compositions by composers such as Sicong Ma and Guoquan Li, as well as works written more than a decade ago by Xunfang Huang and Chen Shuying. When Markus stayed with us for a week, after one of his tours got cancelled, we improvised together for hours each day. We recorded our experiments, and we puzzled over the hovering nocturnal mood of our explorations. Of course we were channeling the situation of our lives and of the world, perhaps a dissonance between the realms of comfort and distress, distance from family or a larger distance from our hopes for the human herd. As artists, we take a shamanic path, and we trend toward the outlying regions of cognition. Our musical mood during these sessions reminded me of the books by Peter Kingsley, about pre-Socratic mystics Parmenides and Empedocles, who’s meditative approach of “incubation” planted a more earthy and subterranean core to ancient European philosophy. Consider this musical excursion as subterranean, seeking balance inside of dark silence. Markus and I share a deep friendship based on searching, questioning, practice, and a sort of alchemical process of creating things that never existed before, from within our life journeys.

On November 7, 2025, the Belgian label Sdban Records will release a reissue of the mythical Open Sky Unit (1974) by the eponymous jazz fusion group featuring Micheline and Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Ron Wilson, Janot Buchem and Michel Graillier. The album returns on vinyl, highlighting a pivotal moment in Belgian jazz history, where soul, funk, and free improvisation came together in a vibrant and family-driven project.

Taking its title from a famous Karl Marx quote - ‘All that is solid melts into air, all that is sacred is profaned’ - Church’s third album contemplates the corrosive effects of 21st century capitalism - impending climate doom, skyrocketing wealth inequality, the predations of the so-called ‘attention economy’, genocide and the specter of world war - and their hallucinatory effects on our collective and individual psyches.

Sandra Chamoux received the highest distinctions in Christian Bernard’s class at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional (CRR) of Grenoble before being admitted with honors to the Haute École de Musique in Geneva, where she studied with Harry Datyner and was awarded the Premier Prix de virtuosité in 1992. A laureate of the Gian-Battista Viotti and Ferruccio Busoni international competitions in Italy, she also studied under Catherine Collard, Vlado Perlemuter, and Yevgeni Malinin.
