The sole album of this French speaking Canadian band was released in 1972 and housed in a trippy day-glo mushroom cover. This great and still underrated record was filled with varied, imaginative and cleverly-arranged songs based mostly on pleasant sax and flute passages and was definitely influenced by late 60’s psychedelia and classic progressive bands like King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator and Jethro Tull. The central point of this very professionally produced album was Le Chateau Hante - progressive, mostly instrumental, 11 minutes track dominated by twisted sounds, haunting whispers and very long, fuzzed-out guitar solo. This CD edition has been carefully remastered from original, analogue source and sounds better than ever!

================================================================================

The group was a quintet made of Emile Naud (vocals, flute, saxophone), Alain Vincent (drums), Alain Lavallée (bass), Daniel Maillette (organ, piano), Jacques Paradis (guitars) et Alain Charette (guitar, harmonica). Their sole album (produced by Pierre Gauthier of the future Eclipse band) was released in 72 with a very psychedelic artwork cover that suited well their late 60's psych-prog music. Première Capsule was the first album to be released on the Les Jeunes Artistes label, and it was often given away at the group's concert. It is now a very pricy and sought-after vinyl, and it was never legitimately reissued, though the seli-legit Radio-Active label did a bootleg. Not much is known about the band members' previous and future musical meanderings.

from progarchives

Starts off in a trite go-go 1960s way, with an energetic keyboard driven instrumental number. This is followed by a very slow, depressing and excruciatingly boring 7 minute blues song with French vocals. From track three on Side 1 to the conclusion of the record, it's all aces. The music becomes primarily instrumental while taking on a darker stance. The guitar has that ominous fuzz tone, and there's an underlying jazzy structure lead by the fine flute and sax work. For these excellent tracks I'm reminded of the Eden Rose / Sandrose family out of France, and the relative progression from one to the other. If Champignons were lead by a female vocalist, that would solidify the Sandrose comparison.
Progressive rock, featuring sax, flute, lots of fuzz guitar, and French lyrics. The 11:30 track B1 has gained a reputation as a good track to play on your radio program at Halloween time. Grades - 2 B+'s, 2 B's, and 3 B-'s, very consistent. Originally released on Les Jeunes Artistes Associes.
