Genre: Alternative Metal, Hard Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Republic Records (440 067 854-2)

Released in 2003, Faceless is widely considered a defining, high-energy album for Godsmack, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 and establishing a more melodic yet aggressive sound featuring drummer Shannon Larkin. The album continues the band's signature Alice in Chains-influenced alternative metal but adds more fluid, heavy grooves. While critics offered mixed reviews, calling it formulaic, fans generally praised it as a refined, hook-driven hard rock staple.

Talk about rockers rollin'! This fantastic four-CD set from the veteran British rockers includes all 75 of their A-sides (many of them being radio edits not available on the original albums) plus Jump That Rock (Whatever You Want), their 2008 collaboration with the German techno act Scooter. Love 'em or hate 'em, Status Quo have been rockin' the charts for four decades. While they remain living legends and rock icons in the U.K., Europe, South America, and elsewhere, they can't even get arrested in the States! The "hip" U.K. press love to take as many potshots at them as possible, which is all the more reason to loveQuo. But we all know that, deep down (deeper and down), those critics probably have a soft spot for quite a few of Quo's hits but will never admit to it in public. At any rate, the band has always managed to maintain a certain quality level that may not always touch the stars, but, at the least, will always rock the house!

Digitally remastered 3 CD set containing three classic albums from the Canadian Rock veterans: Wheatfield Soul (1969), Canned Wheat (1969) and Shared The Land (1970). What makes Wheatfield Soul so sought after is inventive themes that found their way onto later albums. 'These Eyes' remains timeless; it is the song that stands out as the masterpiece on this creative album. Canned Wheat introduced several of the bands most remembered songs and still sounds incredibly fresh, a product from the days of Classic Rock. Recorded in the aftermath of Randy Bachman's departure, Share The Land was a better album than anyone expected. It was the biggest selling original album in their career. Burton Cummings is in excellent voice and the new double lead guitar team of Kurt Winter and Greg Leskiw gave the band a greater range than they had before.

After the international success of the self-produced "Fox on the Run," Sweet broke away from songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman in an attempt to shake their "pop puppets" and took a stab at conquering the hard rock album market. Sadly, a lot of their post-hit singles period output lacked the tight songwriting and hooks that made them famous, and this problem is in evidence on Off the Record. The band's musical approach seems schizophrenic on this album: songs like "Windy City" and "Live for Today" attempt a tough sound built on gritty lyrics and heavy guitar riffs, but this approach is undone by the overt slickness of the production, which tarts everything up with Queen-style harmonies and thickly-layered synthesizers that would feel more at home on a prog rock album…

Crematory One of the pioneering acts of the fertile European goth metal scene in the 1990s, Germany's Crematory began as a strict death metal unit before adding goth and industrial elements into their arsenal. Formed in 1991, their 1992 demo quickly caught the attention of Massacre Records, which issued the band's debut long-player, Transmigration, the following year. Tours alongside Tiamat, My Dying Bride, and Atrocity helped to expand Crematory's fan base, and they began seeing heavy rotation on MTV Germany, which they responded to by recording their 1996 Nuclear Blast-issued eponymous album completely in their native language. Subsequent LPs like Awake, Act Seven, and Believe saw Crematory moving in a darker, more surreal direction that leaned more heavily on the gothic side of their persona, but despite their enormous popularity, by 2001 they had elected to disband.

Released in 1973, Stillpoint remains one of the most innovative and enduring progressive albums of the period. The two hit singles released from the album: "Goodbye Lollipop" (the first ever release on the maverick Mushroom label) and "12lb Toothbrush" (the monster crowd favourite, with its distinctive "na na na nanana na" vocal hook) were balanced by the longer, psychedelic blues of album tracks like "Salmon Song" and "Listen To The Morning Sunshine". Recorded in just six days, Stillpoint highlights Madder Lake's distinctive sound: the combination of Fettes' unique (often effects laden) vocals, Mason's understand bluestinged guitar playing, the sparse yet effective use of McKinnon's keyboards and the agile drive of the rhythm section. In addition to the vocal effects the band used fuzz bass and a bass pedal which is easily mistaken for a synthesizer, while Mason's subtle use of wah wah to produce shimmering explosions of sound gives the album an almost otherworldly quality…

During the 1980s, Queen ceased to be a big record seller in the U.S., but maintained its superstar status at home. In the '90s, following the death of Freddie Mercury, there was a brief resurgence of interest in America triggered by the inclusion of "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the movie Wayne's World. But in 1995, when the surviving members got around to releasing the final recordings done with Mercury in the form of Made in Heaven, the status quo had returned. The album topped the charts in Western Europe, with its single, "Heaven for Everyone," reaching the Top Ten, while in the U.S. it was on and off the charts within weeks. Musically, Made in Heaven harked back to Queen's 1970s heyday with its strong melodies and hard rock guitar playing, topped by Mercury's bravura singing and some of the massed choir effects familiar from "Bohemian Rhapsody"…

Ginger Baker's mid-'70s profile took another unexpected turn following Cream's blues-rock blood and thunder and his Afro-beat matchups with Fela Kuti. He formed this straight-ahead power trio with the guitar- and bass-playing brother team of Adrian and Paul Gurvitz, who'd briefly lit up the '60s U.K. charts as Gun (of "Race With the Devil" fame). Such a step might have seemed subversively normal for Baker, but he and the brothers had an undeniable chemistry; not surprisingly, their debut album is a self-assured, aggressive affair. "Help Me" and "I Wanna Live Again" are punchy and succinct; so are the hard-driving instrumentals "Love Is" and its funkier cousin, "Phil 4." The band leavens their hard-hitting delivery with subtle orchestration and piano; the latter instrument works to haunting effect on the introspective "Memory Lane"…
