Eddie Higgins started his professional career in Chicago, Illinois, while studying at the Northwestern University School of Music. An elegant and sophisticated pianist, his encyclopedic harmonic approach and wide range of his repertory made him one of the most distinctive jazz pianists to come out of Chicago, gaining the respect of local and visiting musicians for his notable mastery of the instrument. Higgins also had the unusual ability to sound equally persuasive in a broad span of music, whether he was playing traditional swing, exciting bebop or reflexive ballads, providing the tone and stylistic flavor of each styles, as both a soloist and as accompanist.Tracklist:
A swinging tenor saxophonist with a warm tone and supple feel, Scott Hamilton first emerged in the '70s playing a style that hearkened back to the pre-bebop sound of artists like Ben Webster and Zoot Sims. It was a style that helped Hamilton stand out from his contemporaries, especially during the electrified era of fusion jazz. Signed to Concord, he issued a string of celebrated albums for the label, like 1977's Swinging Young Scott, 1979's Tenorshoes, and 1986's The Right Time, all of which showcased his knack for acoustic jazz, blues, and standards. He gained respect from both contemporary players and veterans, famously touring as a member of legendary clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman's small group. Along with contemporaries like cornetist Warren Vache, saxophonist Harry Allen, and saxophonist Scott Robinson, he has continued to keep older jazz traditions alive, playing with swing veterans like guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, as he did on 1998's Red Door: Remember Zoot Sims, and issuing elegant sessions from his adopted home of Italy, like 2019's Danish Ballads & More.
Since the '90s, Ken Peplowski has been one of the top clarinetists in jazz as well as a very talented tenor player. In addition, he has helped keep the tradition of small-group swing (and occasionally Dixieland) alive.
While Peplowski has always been a favorite collaborator for vocalists, he'd worked with everyone from Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney to Madonna and Cuban vocalist Isaac Delgado. Over the next several years he recorded and performed with a number of singers including Carol Welsman, Cheryl Bentyne, Nicki Parrott, and Katie Thiroux.
