For us, the Scottish band The Waterboys, like their fellow Celtic renaissance like Big Country and The Alarm, remained in the shadow of the globalist U2 and Simple Minds, but at home still enjoys cult status. More precisely, not the team itself and its leader and only permanent member of Mike Scott, a poet, a pagan and spiritualist. After notoriously problematic album based on poems of Yeats («An Appointment With Mr. Yeats», 2011), Scott turns for inspiration to the American myth, always fascinated musicians from the British Isles, and recorded the album in Nashville with local musicians. The result was above all praise - inspired by the best traditions of The Waterboys start «Destinies Entwined» to ten-minute epic road movie «Long Strange Gold Road», which ends the album. And I must say, this whole "Americana", played by looking south from the Scottish tradition, sounds remarkably fresh and vigorous, whether it is at least a rough rural rocker «Still a Freak», comically religious epiphany «I Can See Elvis», sprawling romance «The Girl Who Slept For Scotland» or husky-Dylan narrative «November Tale». Actually, when listening to Dylan records most often comes to mind.
