Of all the bands that were unjustly overlooked in the early 1990's, none deserved a greater share of recognition more than Tyketto. The band's debut album Don't Come Easy was an AOR/melodic rock masterpiece, embodying everything good about that style of music, and should have vaulted the band into the same arena as bands like Damn Yankees, Bad English, Firehouse, and Giant. Instead they went largely unnoticed.
Released in 1994, Strength in Numbers follows in the footsteps of Don't Come Easy, in that it is a very melodic, radio-friendly (at least it would have been a few years earlier) rock album. Releasing an album like this at a time when the music world had gone "alternative" took guts, and I salute Tyketto for doing so. Naturally the album wasn't a major success, but it still stands as one of the decade's better melodic rock albums. It's not quite as good as Don't Come Easy, but there are plenty of great songs. And of course Danny Vaughn sounds terrific. He's one of the best vocalists in the genre, and one of my favorite singers period.
This is Danny Vaughn's last album with the band, though there are a few more Vaughn-era tracks on the Take Out & Served Up Live CD, which is also worth checking out if you're a Tyketto fan.By Justin G, amazon
