François Devienne (Joinville, January 31, 1759 - Charenton, September 5, 1803) was a French composer, nicknamed the "French Mozart '. François Devienne is the last of fourteen children of a manufacturer of saddles. He quickly comes into contact with music since, after learning several instruments at an early stage with his older brother, he becomes a child of ur hp in his hometown. This musical approach allows him to apply later in various Parisian ensembles as a soloist and member of orchestras and, better still, he joined in 1780 at the Kleber. He plays the flute (which he taught Felix Rault), bassoon (it began in 1788, bassoonist at the Théâtre de Monsieur then at the Paris Opera in 1793). Parallèlemment, he composes. He also holds a position of sergeant in the orchestra of the military guard. He writes, as part of its functions are to teach music to children of military personnel, a method of theoretical and practical flute (1793). In his "free school of music", renamed the National Institute of Music Revolution and the Paris Conservatory in 1795, he served as professor of flute. He also joined the Freemasons and the orchestra of the Concerts de la Loge Olympique. The 1790s are also conducive to her career, at least to his fame as a musician since he composed during this period some popular operas including one that will bring success, at the Theatre Feydeau Visitation created August 7, 1792, on a libretto by Louis-Benoît Picard. On September 5, 1803, Devienne dies in a sanatorium in Charenton, near Paris, probably due to overwork.
