"Pavement Tree" (Sea Recordings, 14) meant, in a way, a break with Bigott's earlier preferences, betting on a somewhat darker and thicker sound. A maneuver with which Borja Laudo and company recovered their best tone after the inferior "Blue Jeans" (Recordings in the Sea, 13) published the previous year.

The present delivery, however, tends towards the opposite tendency, as it shines as a continuist disc that delves with accuracy and depth in the forms of its aforementioned predecessor. In such a circumstance definitely influences the fact that the production of the album falls again on Jeremy Jay, who goes back to surpass the strict functions of the position to fully engage and dye the whole work with his recognizable seal. The union of both musicians derives in a positive synergy, and leaves behind a record - already octavo in the race of the zaragozano - splendid, where the melody always sees the light between marked basses and insinuated shades, obtaining in this way an attractive contrast.

Eight songs and less than twenty-five minutes long are enough to host "Hairy Moon", "Apple Girl" or "Coming Soon" cuts of key bands in the American indie of the 80's such as The Feelies, Violent Femmes, I La Tengo or even the first REM Along with them, approaches to classic forms leave precious as "Happy Flan" and "Will Anything Happen", and even a shoegazer anthem as the single "She Is Gone". "My Friends Are Dead" ("Recordings at the Sea, 16") generously spreads, and by the way satisfies the current immediacy, by going straight to the point and avoiding the inclusion of unnecessary filling.

Completing eight albums in ten years is an achievement within reach of a few. Doing it by distributing discography between notable and outstanding elephants, always personal and daring, is a merit only feasible for the elect. Borja Laudo has been demonstrating this position for over a decade, after molding different versions of himself capable of respecting his essence, and although he sometimes tries to disguise it with histrionics and parodies, the truth is that his genius is evident.

“Pavement Tree” (Grabaciones en el Mar, 14) significó, de algún modo, una ruptura con las anteriores preferencias de Bigott, apostando éste por un sonido algo más oscuro y grueso. Una maniobra con la que Borja Laudo y compañía recuperaban su mejor tono tras el inferior “Blue Jeans” (Grabaciones en el Mar, 13) publicado el año anterior.

La presente entrega tiende sin embargo hacia la tendencia opuesta, al brillar como disco continuista que ahonda con acierto y profundidad en las formas de su mencionado predecesor. En tal circunstancia influye definitivamente el hecho de que la producción del álbum recaiga de nuevo sobre Jeremy Jay, quien vuelve a sobrepasar las funciones estrictas del cargo para implicarse de lleno y tintar toda la obra con su reconocible sello. La unión de ambos músicos deriva en sinergia positiva, y deja a su paso un disco -octavo ya en la carrera del zaragozano- espléndido, donde la melodía siempre ve la luz entre bajos marcados y sombras insinuadas, logrando de este modo un atractivo contraste.

Ocho canciones y menos de veinticinco minutos de duración resultan suficientes para albergar cortes del tipo de “Hairy Moon”, “Apple Girl” o “Coming Soon”, deudores de bandas clave en el indie norteamericano de los 80 como The Feelies, Violent Femmes, Yo La Tengo o incluso los primeros R.E.M. Junto a ellos, acercamientos a formas clásicas dejan preciosidades como “Happy Flan” y “Will Anything Happen”, e incluso un himno shoegazer como el single “She Is Gone”. “My Friends Are Dead” (Grabaciones en el Mar, 16) cunde así generosamente, y de paso satisface la inmediatez imperante en la actualidad, al ir directo al grano y evitar la inclusión de relleno innecesario.

Completar ocho discos en diez años es un logro al alcance de pocos. Hacerlo repartiendo discografía entre elepés notables y sobresalientes, siempre personales y atrevidos, es un mérito sólo factible para los elegidos. Borja Laudo lleva una década demostrando esa posición al frente de Bigott, tras moldear diferentes versiones de sí mismo capaces de respetar su esencia, y aunque a veces se empeñe en disimularlo con histrionismos y parodias, lo cierto es que su genialidad es evidente.
