Various Artists (Putumayo) - A Celtic Collection

Posted By: amadou
Music based on Celtic and related traditions is enjoying vastly increased popularity throughout the U.S., Canada, the British Isles and continental Europe. This partly due to the international success of Enya and Clannad, as well as the high visibility given the Chieftains' collaborations with rock stars like Sting, Mick Jagger, Sinead O'Connor and Van Morrison. In addition, the world music scene's development has created more venues for modern expressions of music inspired by various ethnic cultures. This environment has nurtured not only established performers like those mentioned above, but also encouraged the next generation to come forward. In fact, the past few years have seen an explosion of new artists in Ireland and Scotland particularly: Deanta and accordion wiz Sharon Shannon who represents Ireland's young turks, while Old Blind Dogs and others display the dynamics of young Scottish musicians.
