Born in Denmark but beginning her musical career in New York, it was in Japan that Annekei first made her name as a recording artist, with this eponymous album marking her debut. Musically, smooth R&B, singer/songwriter pop is the order of the day, exemplified by the single "Brother," and "Close Your Eyes," her winning song from Showtime at the Apollo in 2003.

Annekei has a very pristine and unique voice - for some reason I think maybe it's her accent, although I'm not sure. The jazz instrumentation meshes well with her voice too. The only letdown is that some tracks stand out so much compared to others. For example, the subject matter of Taxi Driver and N.Y.C. feel far more unique than most of the rest of the album; this makes the album feel a little bit less organized because the subject matters do not feel obviously related at times. Another issue I have is that the contrast between the more upbeat and the more mellow songs felt pretty disparate to me. Maybe the tracks were composed without considering the final format (an album)? Anyways, for a debut studio album this is very enjoyable.
