Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major (WAB 107) is one of his best-known symphonies. It was written between 1881 and 1883 and was revised in 1885. It is dedicated to Ludwig II of Bavaria. The premiere, given under Arthur Nikisch in the opera house at Leipzig in 1884, brought Bruckner the greatest success he had known in his life. The symphony is sometimes referred to as the "Lyric", though the appellation is not the composer's own, and is seldom used.

After the complete recordings of the Bruckner Symphonies by Haitink with his Concertgebouw Orchestra (mid 60's - early 70's). This re-recording of the 7th was made in 1978 and surpasses Haitink's prior reading on many counts. Although the recording is still analogue, it is far superior to the earlier recording: powerful and impressive dynamics, always noble and balanced. As Haitink's Bruckner Box-set contains the older recording and this one has been discontinued, it's a no-brainer. A must-have, must-hear recording. Enjoy!

Track listing:
1. Allegro moderato
2. Adagio: Sehr feierlich und sehr langsam
3. Scherzo: Sehr schnell
4. Finale: Bewegt, doch nicht schnell
