Pietari Brahe nuorempi (1602 – 1680), Suomen kenraalikuvernööri, on maamme historiankirjoituksen lempilapsi. Hänen hallintokautensa katsotaan olleen poikkeuksellisen edistyksellistä aikaa. Tuolloin perustettiin mm. maamme ensimmäinen yliopisto, Turun Akatemia, kymmenen uutta kaupunkia ja postilaitos sekä alueen hallintoa kehitettiin.
Vähemmän tunnettua on, että Brahe soitti luuttua, ja että hän kirjoitti luuttumusiikkia sisältävän kokoelman. Tätä Per Brahe lutbokia, säilytetään Skoklosterin kirjastossa Uppsalassa Ruotsissa, ja se sisältää viitisenkymmentä luuttusävellystä tabulatuureina kirjoitettuna.
Brahe kirjoitti kokoelmansa nuorena miehenä opiskellessaan Giessenin yliopistossa Saksassa. Hänen opintoihinsa kuului muun muassa teologiaa, juridiikkaa, hepreaa, ranskaa – ja luutunsoittoa.
Luuttukirja sisältää yli 50 sävellystä; tansseja, kuuluisien luuttumestarien sävellyksiä sekä laulujen ja koraalien instrumenttisovituksia – kaikki Brahen itsensä muistiinkirjoitettamina. Kokoelma tarjoaa meille aikamatkan hänen kokemaansa musiikilliseen maailmaan ja antaa meille kuvan siitä, millainen oli 1600-luvun alun Itämeren kulttuurialueen ylimystön musiikkimaku. Kokoelmaa tutkimalla voi löytää kaikenlaista mielenkiintoista. On herkullista ajatella, että Brahe on nuorena miehenä opiskelijahuoneistossaan soitellut luutullaan kappaleita nimeltään Amor ja Liebe. Tai millainen on teos, jonka Brahe on nimennyt otsikolla Favorit?
