On his new CD with the Viola concerto by William Walton, the Kol Nidrei arranged for viola and the romance for viola and orchestra, Nils Mönkemeyer once again introduces how beautiful, how interesting, how fascinating a viola can be. At Nils Mönkemeyer, the viola has a great body, it sounds almost like a cello, especially in William Walton's concert. Even if you lose the lightness, the flurring in the sound something - from the Kol Nidrei and the romance of Max Bruch speaks the longing. And with the selection of Arvo Pärt's Fratres for viola, strings and drums, Nils Mönkemeyer creates an hour of music, which is at the same time sophisticated, yet still conjuring moments of merriment.
