Sony International's Pop & Wave, Vol. 4 collects two discs' worth of poppy new wave tracks by some of the biggest names as well as some one-hit wonders and very obscure groups too. If the two discs were boiled down to one it would be an incredibly strong collection, but even as it is with a bit of filler included, the collection has some of the biggest hits of the new wave era (though not as many as previous volumes in the series). A few of the songs like Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer," Spandau Ballet's "True," and Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face" are the type of tunes that define the era. However most of what you will find on this volume are non-hit tracks by new wave stars: the Human League's "Human," Aztec Camera's "Working in a Goldmine," Culture Club's "Victims," Wham!'s "Where Did Your Heart Go?." This approach makes the disc an ideal purchase for someone who likes the new wave sound and wants to delve deeper than just the hits.
