Stefan Melovski - Supposin' (2019)

Stefan Melovski is a Serbian-born guitarist, composer and arranger currently based in London. He spent his youth in the island of Cyprus, where he studied with classical guitarist Socrates Leptos, as well as taking part in a bi-communal “Jazz Futures” program immersing himself in the jazz art form. He took lessons from Chris Byars, Ari Roland, Ofer Landsberg, Sacha Perry, Keith Balla and Yaala Ballin, who he still views as his mentors to this day. After relocating to London, he dedicates his time fronting his own trio and sextet at his residency “Oliver’s Sunday Jazz” at Oliver’s Bar, Greenwich, as well as playing as a sideman for various jazz groups and singers. He has been featured as performer at the Ronnie Scott’s ‘Late Show’ on many occasions, and has been lucky to have performed with, amongst others, Johnny O’Neal, Marion Cowings, Jimmy Wormworth, the Carducci Quartet, as well as lutenist David Miller.

Whilst in London, Stefan finished his classical guitar postgraduate studies at the prestigious Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, studying with English guitarist Graham Anthony Devine. He has been featured as a solo recitalist in various venues including King’s Place, Cheltenham Town Hall, and St. James Piccadilly to name a few. With his big band ‘Op Sa!’ Stefan performed on BBC 3 as well as releasing a charity single for the Calais Crisis. His first album, “Supposin’ ” is due to come out summer 2019, featuring talented Cypriot jazz musicians. His current projects in 2019 are recording a new composition written by Argentine composer Alejandro Civilotti, as well as performing a set with his sextet comprised only of compositions by Tadd Dameron.
