A compilation of classical music from the Romantic era reinterpreted by some of Windham Hill's top artists, Romantic Music of the 19th Century is primarily of interest to new age fans, since the atmospheric rearrangements recall the work of the performers, not the composers.

"The Romantics" is one of a number of collections of "reinterpreted" period music issued by Windham Hill. Some of the others include "The Impressionists," "Bach Variations," and a Mozart disk. All reflect the high quality of Windham Hill recordings, and the individual arrangements themselves are also highly artistic–none of the packaged "Hooked on Classics" junk that came out some years back. I would describe the genre as principally classical, but with perhaps a bit of new-age flavor. They're enjoyable either as quality background music or in their own right for the serious music aficionado.
