    Salvatore Sciarrino - Un'immagine di Arpocrate / 6 Capricci (2004)
    Avant-Garde | EAC (APE + CUE) | booklet + artworks | 2x100MB + 57MB
Massimiliano Damerini (p), Gianluigi Gelmetti, Georg Mönch (v)

Planned in 1974 as a piano concerto for the pianist Dino Ciani, after the latter's death in an auto accident, "An Image of Arpocrates" was turned into a long, agonizing "Adagio for piano, chorus and orchestra". The chorus comes in only at the end, to intone the incomplete last verses from Faust. The Goethian fragment undergoes further fragmentation, only some of the words, now and then, emerge, and even those are more whispered than sung. After the Goethe lines, the chorus sings the second part of Wittgenstein's proposition: "on this, one must keep silent".

ps. This is my sixth upload, in gratitude to so many downloads gifted by all the generous and clever lovers of the music of our time. I hope to add afterwards more music that perhaps you have not had the occasion to listen.
Next Xenakis or Gubaidulina?… no, for now;… perhaps Nono (what not listed by Interzone)
