On his ZOHO debut, New York City-based guitarist Charlie Apicella and his band Iron City deliver a laid-back, funky session of classic 1960s-style guitar and organ combo grooves.
On Big Boss, four Apicella originals are complemented by a rarely-heard early 60s Motown hit by The Supremes ( I Hear a Symphony ), a Willie Dixon blues classic popularized by Muddy Waters ( Spoonful ), and two gospel-influenced Grant Green gems.
Trained in composition by the late, great saxophonist Yusef Lateef and New York guitar icon Dave Stryker, Apicella s roots in classic American jazz run deep.
