CocoRosie – Live at La Cigale , Paris (2005) Rare Recordings

The lights dim. Spleen starts with sampled sounds like an old music box déglinguée. They are three in the dark. Boys or girls, it is not known. On scansions of Spleen, a girl approached hood on the piano. A violin began to play off stage and the voice of old Bianca arrives, carried by sounds of sea and broken shells. The melodies take both the rhymes of childhood and old blues or jazz titles of the southern United States.
CocoRosie- The concert takes place completely in the dark, illustrated by videos and animated short films created and made by the two sisters. The two "human beat box" play a kind of duel shaped interlude. The number of musicians (they are 6) force the reinterpretation of the titles of the album "La Maison De Mon Rêve "( 2004 )("The house of my dreams") and it works so well that the public keeps asking.
The stories that we create about CocoRosie, both committed and unreal, seem to take place throughout their lives and give the feeling of knowing them. They bring in their intimacy in their world of sweetness and melancholy, magic and pain. They’re small things that make us human. It’s as if they offered us their diary written for four hands. The volinist sometimes sings with them and her voice makes the interpretation of “Beautiful Boys” superb.
The group finished the set in front of the stage, dancing in a half-light on a hip-hop wild. To recall the light finally returns, the projection is complete. Some have left the room along the way: out of misconception, this group may well unleash passions, because the vision of these young women of the world around them is disturbing.
