A gumbo of off-kilter blues and folk spiced up by African grooves and pop hooks, all held together by stories from Cory's myriad travels. Cory Seznec has been quietly chipping away at the music industry's obsession with genre for the past the past 10 years. Whether with the weird world roots trio Groanbox, the Afro-new-folk of the Seznec Bros, his involvement in the Ethiopian fusion bands MistO-MistO and Damakase, or with his solo project, Cory has been doggedly blurring the lines and coloring outside the box.

With this release, his second solo album, the sound is a little more electrified, a little more plugged in, but retains the spirit of Cory's previous output. Recorded analog at Tonehouse Studios in Noisy-le-Roi, France with some additional recording in Annapolis, Maryland and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the sound is big and warm and features stellar musicians from Paris and elsewhere.
The songs are all inspired by experiences from Cory's numerous trips down backroads, backstreets, backwaters: Sell You My Soul was born when a guy in the middle of a small village in northern Ethiopia tried to sell Cory his two sisters; Hawk On A Haystack began in the French countryside but ends on a dirt road in rural Ethiopia; Tattered Flag was spawned on a trip up the Niger in Mali; Pigeon Man recounts the story of a manic man in Paris who militantly fed pigeons everyday at the same time; Colette's Bar & Restaurant was set in motion by a madcap trip to Hawassa, Ethiopia with the band MistO-MistO; God Will Change Your Situation Barbershop originated with a postcard received from the Congo…
These are unflinchingly eclectic and at times eccentric tunes keen to explore the theater in everyday experiences.
