Schubert Dip is the debut album by the rock band EMF, released in 1991 on Parlophone Records. The name is a pun on the name of the popular sweet Sherbet Dip and the 19th-century composer Franz Schubert.
The album contains a large number of samples used to introduce songs.
"Unbelievable" is their best known single. The song includes samples of US comedian Andrew Dice Clay throughout the track.
"I Believe" is preceded by a clip of keyboard player and sampler Brownson smashing a window and yelling his intentions in doing so.
The song "Lies" originally contained a sample of the voice of John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman, reciting the lyrics to Lennon's "Watching the Wheels." There was controversy over this from Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, who objected to this sample. As a result, all pressings of Schubert Dip since then have omitted the sample of Chapman's voice.
The song "Girl of an Age" contains a sample of the character Ernie from Sesame Street speaking to his friend Bert.
The song "Longtime" contains a sample of a reading of The Hollow Men by T. S. Eliot.
An uncredited bonus track, previously on the b-side of "Unbelievable," titled "EMF" appears on the Parlophone version of the album after "Longtime." The song contains a sample of the Von Trapp children from The Sound of Music film.
The song "Children" was used as the theme song for the New Zealand music show Pepsi RTR Countdown in the '90s; and peruvian TV Serie Caligula
wikipedia
Alternative dance or indie dance (also referred to as underground dance in the US) is a musical genre that mixes rock subgenres with electronic dance music. Although largely confined to the British Isles, it has gained American and worldwide exposure through acts such as New Order in the 1980s and The Prodigy in the 1990s.
Allmusic states that alternative dance mixes the "melodic song structure of alternative and indie rock with the electronic beats, synths and/or samples, and club orientation of post-disco dance music".[2] The Sacramento Bee calls it "postmodern–Eurosynth–technopop–new wave in a blender".[3] Cultural historian Piero Scaruffi suggests that electronic body music first witnessed in Belgium, and later in Canada, between 1980 and 1984 laid the foundations for the alternative dance saturation in the 90s.[4]
The genre draws heavily on club culture for inspiration while incorporating other styles of music such as synthpop, acid house, and trip hop. The performers of alternative dance are closely identified with their music through a signature style, texture, or fusion of specific musical elements.[2] They are usually signed to small record labels. wikipedia
