On this compilation you will find some more hippy sounding songs and not as bluesy as you might wish. Well their still are some blues numbers like the brilliant 'I put a spell on you', which sung in Burdon's wonderful voice just sounds absolutely wonderful. Also a very clever version of Randy Newman's "Mama told me not to come" illustrates their ability to make well-known songs sound their own. The track "Gin house blues" obviously suggesting his later problems with drink. A good half of the tracks are actually written by Eric Burdon himself, which can explain the fact that the tracks have a more phsychedelic sound to them. Tracks like 'Sky Pilot' are not very taxing on the brain to work out what they are about!
