Eaglesmith is one of the unsung heroes of Alt Country. One of nine children born to a farming family in rural southern Ontario, he often employed his difficult upbringing as raw material for his heartland narratives. The first decade of his work (in which he stuck to his formula of mostly serious gritty folk) culminated in his masterful 1993 album "Things is Changin'". However, it wasn't until he loosened up his formula in the mid-90's when Eaglesmith really hit stride. He began releasing dynamic albums that hopscotch across musical styles. The best of this era was 1997's "Lipstick, Lies & Gasoline".
