T.Rex was an English rock band fronted by guitarist, singer and songwriter Marc Bolan. Formed as Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1960s London, the folk rock group's debut album My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair… But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows (1968) which reached number 15 in the UK. In the 1970s, they achieved mainstream success as a glam rock band with hits such as "Hot Love," "Get It On," "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru." After waning commercial success in the mid-70s, T.Rex ended in 1977 after Bolan was killed in a car accident.

allmusic.com says: If it's true that you can never have too much of a good thing, Marc Bolan fans must be positively ecstatic round about now, as Edsel – home, already, to one of the most thorough, not to mention repetitive reissue campaigns in modern history – return once more to the T. Rex singles catalog, and offer them all up for sale once again. And the only saving grace is, if you missed picking up the original 7" singles when they were around the first time, now you can have them as 5" platters, each resplendent in one or other of the myriad picture sleeves that were created around the world.

The first volume in this series is the one that will attract the most attention – the biggest hits (and best B-sides) were there, after all. T. Rex Wax Co. Singles, Vol. 2 [1975-1978] should not be scorned, however, as it kicks off with the career-rejuvenating "New York City," resuscitates the unreleased "Christmas Bop" 45, plows through the idiot joy of "I Love to Boogie" (one of the key sounds for the summer of '76), and finally pulls up with the sheer brilliance of Bolan's final single, "Celebrate Summer." ("Crimson Moon," the first posthumous 45, is here as well, but the story has already ended).

Your need for this collection, of course, is dependant upon how you feel about CD singles – no matter how great they look, they will never share the iconic status of an original 7" single, and, until someone invents a CD player that will let you stack the suckers up in a heap, and play them like an old-time gramophone, they're just too fidgety to actually enjoy putting on. But, of course, these discs aren't meant to be played. They're here to own, to look at, and to wipe off with a duster every so often. And, by that token – this box is a must-have.
