    Burnside, encore…

Like many great Bluesman before him, R.L. Burnside is a connoisseur of chaos. Veteran of a thousand crazed moonshine-fueled house parties, himself the former proprietor of a series of country juke joints fabled for their toxicity, R.L. has long been the kind of guy you'd expect to yell ''fire'' in a crowded theater, just to see what would happen. In fact I've seen him wave a pistol in the middle of a packed juke point, which is pretty much the same thing. And than there was the time R.L. drifted past a microphone that just happended to be recording, mattering darkly to himself, ''The devil: that's who I've been serving.'' The scary thing is that R.L. thought nobody was listening. He is Blues Walking Like A Man, the living personification of Guitar Moan and Backdoor Slam, and all, absolutely, for real. - Robert Palmer, 199x
