Music by Roberday & Louis Couperin on organ and viols. Rare CD. Warmly recommended to lovers of intricate counterpoint.

François Roberday (1624-1680) - Les Fugues et Caprices - André Isoir / Fretwork

Recorded at the Abbey Saint-Michel-en-Thiérache, 1998-2000

''A blend of formal perfection and melancholy expression.''
Roberday's and Louis Couperin's important works were composed before their respective thirty-fifth birthdays,
dating from 1650-1660. Roberday withdrew from composing for reasons not known (but possibly because of failing
to find favour with the young Louis XIV); in the case of Louis Couperin (uncle to François (Couperin)), it was premature death.
