In this way Nicolas Leon (1924) describes the ascendence of this caste, whose name is so musically seggestive….
    … we can conclude that caste "tente en le ayre" is definitely a product of the mixing of races, and that without doubt it is constituted by the three great groups that gave origin to tha caotic variety of castes in the spanish colonies: Spaniards, Indians and Africans.
    In the music, a similar process took place: Spanish music that had already received African influences, at the time of being trasplanted to American soil received an even stronger African influence and became exposed to the particular vision that the Indians had of music…

    La Fontegara (Maria Diez-Cañedo, Gabriela Villa Walls and Eloy Cruz) is an instrumental trio with a repertoire that ranges from music of the Late Midde Ages to Roccoco music (c 1350 - c 1770) on instruments made after the originals. The ensemble was formed in 1988 following individual studies in Mexico, Chicago, Boston, New York and The Hague.
