Want to know something about this artist? So do I in fact, and because of that 'Nothin' To Lose' must be one of the most annoying releases I have ever had the pleasure of reviewing. Why? That's simple, it's bloody good! All I can tell you is what the press release tells us… "That Rock Guy is arguably one of the hardest working artists in the world, performing over a thousand live shows in the last three years alone. Performing energized Melodic Rock, the Australian singer, song-writer, multi-instrumentalist and producer has released his debut album 'Nothin' To Lose' to the world, bringing his own brand of powerful no-frills Melodic Rock to the masses". Great eh? He could be called Joe Bloggs or be some guitar hero under an assumed name, we have no idea.

Irrespective, from the opening number 'Superstar' this oozes quality, great guitar work, cool harmonies and damn good songs. Add to that the extremely good production and you get yourself a real gem of a release. It's hard to say the album or particular songs sound like anyone as it's a real mixture of influences and difficult to pin down. Think of all the "classic" Melodic Rock bands/artists and they are all in here. 'One Shot In A Million' is a good example where you can hear eighties, nineties and noughties all in one song. If I had one criticism, I'd say the vocals sound a little too edgy on occasions. Highlights include the delightful ballad 'Never Gonna Say Good-Bye', the title track and the aforementioned '…Million'.

AOR Heaven have picked up a classy release with this one. Well worth the money and definitely worth listening to. Really good album, really dumb name! ~ review by Steve Price
