Near the mid-20th century you could find young male singers gathering on street corners in New York, Los Angeles, and many cities in between to practice their harmonizing. By the 1950s dozens of these vocal groups had been signed by record labels who captured their sound on 45s. Some of these recordings became indelible classics, while many others vanished so quickly it was if they hadn't been released at all.
