Five-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross performs all his classic hits as well as newer material in this concert DVD. The image is a standard full-frame 1.33:1 transfer. English soundtracks are available in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles available, and neither of the soundtracks are closed-captioned. In addition to the hit-packed set list, the DVD contains a behind-the-scenes interview with Christopher Cross, a biography and discography, and a photo gallery. Michael McDonald makes a guest appearance.
This DVD features the American rock singer Christopher Cross probably most famous for his track ARTHUR'S THEME the song from the movie Arthur starring Dudley Moore. This DVD contains many of his most popular tracks including 'Sailing', 'Ride Like The Wind' and of course 'Arthur's Theme'.
It was recorded just prior to the release of his albumn 'Walking in Avalon' on March 10th 1998 at a small intimate venue, 'The Galaxy Theatre' in Calafornia.
Also making an appearance is his good friend Michael McDonald on a few tracks.
The sound is good but would have benefitted from the presence of a DTS soundtrack as the bass is fairly light. The surround sound is very good and puts you in the best seat in the house.
Definately for the over 30's this DVD is easy going music but a great 'must have' buy if you're a fan of Mr Cross.Review by Danny Gladman, Amazon.co.uk
Note : I have the R1 version with 5.1 channel surround sound.
I am so happy that I decided to get a copy of this concert dvd inspite of the average reviews because unlike the 2.0 channel version, this 5.1 channel version is truly an enjoyable experience that one cannot easily forget due to the song selections, the sound quality and picture quality of the dvd.
If you are a Christopher Cross fan then you MUST definitely get this dvd in the 5.1 channel release version and you will never regret it.
To quote what dvdreview.com says …
"Almost presented like a "Best Of" playlist, this DVD offers something for every fan of Cross' music, and those who want to familiarize themselves with it a little more. The 5.1 surround mix is a great addition to this DVD that blows the stereo mix that is also found on this DVD out of the water. Get this disc, and enjoy an evening with Christopher Cross. It is definitely worth it."Review by CSM, Amazon.com
As the title suggests, An Evening With Christopher Cross presents the singer/songwriter live in concert in a 1998 performance. The 90-minute performance includes hits such as "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," "Ride Like the Wind," "Sailing," and "Minstrel Gigolo." Unfortunately, the sound quality and Cross' performance are somewhat lackluster, resulting in an uninspired concert video. However, the DVD does offer special features such as a photo gallery, interviews, biographies, a discography, and web access, which may make it worthwhile for die-hard Christopher Cross fans.Review by Heather Phares, Allmusic.com
