The album begins with “Johnny,” a strong opener that definitely has Dan’s signature sound we’ve come to know. “Never Long Enough” follows, which begins with a great piano hook and features a very catchy chorus. Patlansky sings about how the times he has home with his wife are “never long enough.” This is definitely a good candidate for a radio single. Next up is “Mayday,” another one of the album’s top tracks about the problems modern day society is causing and relationships crashing as a result.

While many of the songs on Perfection Kills are very rock oriented Dan still has a place for the blues and that shows on “Judge A Man.” Dan sings about past relationships with women who didn’t feel being a musician was a real career. Most of the songs on the album come from Dan’s personal experiences such as “My Dear Boy,” another album highlight which is about Patlansky’s young son. Perfection Kills closes with the single “Dog Day,” which is available for free download on the Blues Rock Review Album Sampler Volume 9.

Sustaining the success Patlansky has reached with his previous two albums is a difficult task, but Perfection Kills does just that. There is plenty here to dig your teeth into with several strong tracks. In the world of blues rock Patlansky is putting out very strong albums on as consistent of a basis as anyone in the genre right now. Perfection Kills is right up there with Dan’s best work.
