Review from Rateyourmusic:Tracks
What a great movement the Neue Deutsche Welle was. For every mediocre Nena, there were two magnificent underground bands. The attack was led by two prolific indie labels, Zick-Zack and Ata-Tak. Die Radierer was one of the first groups to charge their way through the grey musical landscape of the late 70s, and they specialized in a robotic, spastic imitation of popular genres. Fans of Beefheart take note. This debut album succeeds in displaying an exuberant sense of wicked-ness, with the robo-glam "Das Gelobte Land Der Mathematik", the atavistic dance "Charakterschwein", the paranoid tension of "Versteck Dich Nicht Im Kühlschrank" (set on a pulsating bassline, tropicalia percussion, sharp guitar monotone and sinister vocals), the cacophonus reggae parody "Probleme", "Filmjury" (a galloping Western theme covered by robots and played in a malfunctioning tape player), the derranged mantra "Drogentod" etc.
