The Norwegian vocalist Karin Krog is described by the Penguin Guide To Jazz On CD as "one of Europe's most stylish and significant jazz singers." This duo session recorded with John Surman in 1976 began a professional relationship with Surman that has continued to this day. Available now for the first time on CD the session is notable for Krog's expressive and technically astute voice, her advanced musical ideas and Surman's use of acoustic instrumentation (saxes and clarinet) combined with electronics (moog and other synthesizers).
Incredible work from Scandinavian singer Karin Krog! Although Krog began her career as a straight jazz vocalist, she cut a number of records in the 70's that had her pushing into a cool territory that was a lot more progressive, and which had some great Euro-fusion touches – like the sorts you'd find on classic MPS recordings. This session, recorded under the guidance of John Surman, has Krog's icy Scandinavian voice in moody settings of moog and electric keyboards, plus some spacey soprano work by Surman. The album's filled with excellent spacey soundscapes that have Surman soloing nicely on reeds, and which have Krog singing in a style that will bring to mind the radiator song from Eraserhead. Titles include "New Spring", "Alone Song", "Edge Piece", "Empty Streets", "Eyeless In Movement", and "Cloud Line Blue".Dusty Groove
