Five lesser-known pieces (one orchestral suite and four instrumental concertos) from the over-abundant pen of Georg Philipp Telemann are presented in this second collection by the British ensemble Collegium Musicum 90, here directed by its co-founder, gifted violinist Simon Standage, whose earlier recordings with the English Concert and the Academy of Ancient Music are the guarantors of his classiness. The list of musicians involved does, in fact, contain many names that early music fans will associate with the two ensembles just named, so it is no surprise that much of what is to be heard here sounds just like what one has come to expect from the English Concert or the Academy: the pieces are played with energy and much good taste and prove themselves (in a way seemingly very British) to be "very pretty". Chandos's sound engineers have once again excelled, making listening both on loudspeakers and over earphones to be a special pleasure. A special tip for listening in: the 21 minute concerto for two flutes, violin and cello with its masterly playing and ditto engineering.
