Beautiful Distortion is the eleventh[a] album by Dutch rock band the Gathering. It was released on 29 April 2022 via the Gathering's imprint Psychonaut Records. Because the Gathering was on hiatus beforehand, it is their first full-length album in over nine years as well as their first release since the COVID-19 pandemic began. It is also the first studio album to feature the band's founding bassist Hugo Prinsen Geerligs since their 2003 effort Souvenirs. He joined the band coinciding with the departure of Marjolein Kooijman, who had replaced him on bass when he first left.
After 10 years, atmospheric triprock band The Gathering has released a new album. ‘Beautiful Distortion’ is a typical eclectic The Gathering album, although it may be their ‘most dynamic and melodic’ album to date. The Gathering’s signature electronic rock sound is topped with warm Nordic vocals and beautiful vocal lines by Silje Wergeland. Producer Attie Bauw, who also produced The Gathering’s Home and How to Measure a Planet?, collaborated with them on their 11th full length studio album.
