Among the several fine traditional sones groups playing in Cuba today, Cañambú is unique in that it still uses bongo-, maraccas- and bass-substitutes like those its founder created out of bamboo cane in 1940. As is its inventor, as lead singer and composer, that percussion section is still cooking.
